Traveling in the Greek islands after leaving Turkiye. We spent 10 days in Rhodes doing boat repairs and exploring the island. Rhodes is the largest island and has a large population.
We tore the mainsail, the outboard quit working and the wind instrument stopped reporting so we stopped in Rhodes New Marina and worked on getting everything working. Found a sailmaker and outboard repair. Fought with B&G about the warranty on the wind instrument (and lost).
Since the sail repair was going to take 3-4 days we sailed down the coast to a bay and promptly lost our anchor. It turns out the bay covers an older part of the town (the charts and routing apps show it as an anchorage). The diver I hired told us about the town and mentioned that he makes good money recovering anchors ;).

After getting everything back working we sailed over to Santorini and spent a couple of days there. Santorini is a huge tourist spot so we anchored on the far side in a small bay and had a tour guide show us around.

We day sailed from island to island to get to Milos.

We will be here for a few days until the Meltimi winds die down. They blow from the North through this region from July to August and are quite gusty and strong.

The Greek Islands are steep, rocky and dry. Generally limestone with little vegetation. The towns and villages creep up the slopes in narrow, winding paths. The Greek culture is different from Turkiye culture, a little more open, many more people speak English but most signage is in Greek. Getting used to the Greek alphabet and how they juxtapose vowels and contestants for names has been interesting. ψωμί (this is what you see on the menu) = psomí = bread. They generally have an english version but then your are challenged with what you think you are getting and what shows up.

It is all interesting and challenging. Entering a new port, new town, new culture, different weather patterns, hunting down grocery stores, hardware stores, discovering the butcher, the only vegetable stall….. Fun, exciting and sometimes stressful. What a great life!
Cheers
